The panelled, beaded frieze and solid kingwood handles are of a pattern much used by Gillows of Lancaster during the early 19th century. The fine quality of the mahogany and larger-than-average scale of the table are also typical of their country house commissions. A sofa table with panelled frieze, "violet wood knobs" [i.e. kingwood handles], apparently identical legs and characteristic high arched stretcher is shown in the firm's Estimate Sketch Books in June 1823 (E.S.B. folio no. 3255).
