Enameled front and back with an eagle holding a shield bearing a foul anchor, a trumpet of fame and a banner reading IN GOD WE HOPE, all symbols of Rhode Island, the sides and interior of the bowl with loose bouquets, the rim with a gilt and purple band of fruiting grapevine

The present eagle motif finds its origins in the 1802-05 masthead of Newport's Rhode-Island Republican newspaper.
