A ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF HERCULES
CIRCA LATE 1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
The deified hero with a full beard and hair of deeply drilled curly locks, the thick mustache overhanging his upper lip, the unarticulated almond-shaped eyes drilled at their inner canthi and recessed below the prominent brows, crowned with a laurel wreath tied in a "Herakles" knot at the nape of his neck, loosely based on a Greek 4th century B.C. prototype by Lysippos
