As described by Gisela Haase in Dresdener Moebel des 18. Jahrhunderts (Leipzig 1983, p. 50) the present console is part of a larger group decorated in the French style, influenced by the celebrated ornament designer Jean Bérain (1613-1711). The main example of this group is the almost two-metre long console table at the Residenzschloss Dresden (inv. no. 37326). The smaller examples are of similar design, but all vary in their decoration scheme.
