With deep rounded sides, covered with a lustrous black glaze decorated with closely spaced vertical stripes of pale russet on the interior and falling in an irregular line and heavy drops on the exterior to expose the ware burnt brown in the firing

Bowls of this type have been excavated from the Guantai kiln site, Ci county, Hebei province, in the uppermost strata, which are dated to the early- to mid-fourteenth century. See 'Hebei sheng Ci xian Guantai Cizhou yao yizhi fajue jianbao', Wenwu, 1990:4, p. 16, fig. 36, no. 5 and fig. 37.
