This robust 'Grecian' fireside easy chair, with its Egyptian lotus-flowered pillars and reeded tablet crest, is of identical model to the pair supplied to Sir David Hunter Blair of Blairquhan in the 1820s (sold Christie's House sale, 24 May 2007, lot 54). The Blairquhan chairs - now cut down in height - were almost certainly supplied by James and Mathew Morison of Ayr at the same time as the dining chairs, which Morison invoiced at a cost of £56 on 16 May 1820.
