OTTOMAN TURKEY OR SAFAVID IRAN, SECOND HALF 16TH CENTURY
Gouache heightened with gold on paper, the preacher in long-sleeved gold-embroidered tunic and with flame halo sits on a high minbar as his congregation look on, the walls of the mosque with two minarets and a red onion-shaped dome, applied onto a Safavid border of floral arabesque on blue ground, mounted on cream paper margins decorated with gold flowers, areas of scuffing, backed with brown paper
