Although this exact form of wall light is not common, a related design attributed to the ciseleur-doreur Antoine André Ravrio (1759-1814) is in the collection of the Musée des Arts décoratifs (CD 3769). Examples of these wall lights were delivered to the Grand Trianon in 1813 (see H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 356, figs. 5.10.4 and 5.10.5). Interestingly, Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) supplied several pairs of closely related wall-lights to the château de Fontainebleau in 1809 and 1810 (see (J.P. Samoyault, Pendules et Bronzes d'Ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, pp. 140-141, nos. 112-113). A pair of this more common form, which is quite similar to the current lot in scale and subject, was sold from the collection of Dr. Bruce Wilson, Christie's, New York, 24 October 2012, lot 177.
