Each with stiff-leaf cast and guilloche urn-form nozzle, the baluster stem with profile medallions, above husks and lambrequins, the domed circular socle with Bérainesque masks and arabesques, three with associated drip-pans, minor differences, drilled for electricity

Lot Essay

These candlesticks are inspired by the engraved designs of Jean Bérain, published in his Ornemens.. of 1690. A related pair, dating from circa 1680-90, is in the J. Paul Getty Museum (G. Wilson and C. Hess, Summary Catalogue of European Decorative Arts in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, 2001, no.150).
