These limestone pedestals were designed by Professor Sir Albert Richardson, P.R.A., circa 1950, to support the magnificent polychrome marble busts from Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire (see lots 145 and 146). They were made at the Pyghtle Works, Bedford, which Professor Richardson often used to produce stonework and joinery for his clients. Records relating to the operation of J.P. White's Pyghtle Works are held by the Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Records Service.
