Lot Essay

The parlour chairs' 'India-back' vase splats are inlaid with filigreed tablets of Roman foliage, in the manner of chairs supplied around 1720 for Erddig, Wrexham, North Wales (A. Bowett, 'The India-backed chair, 1715-40', Apollo, January 2003, pp. 3-9, fig. 12).
