Lot Essay

An identical chair is illustrated in H. Cescinsky, English Furniture of the Eighteenth Century, vol. III, p. 315, fig. 347. A set of six almost indistinguishable dining chairs including a pair of open armchairs sold Christie's London, 13 April 1989, lot 31. Another related pair of armchairs was offered Sotheby's London, 17 July 1992, lot 305.
