Lot Essay

This mustard-pot and cover is perhaps from the service delivered to Henri-Léonard-Jean-Baptiste Bertin, holder of important ministerial posts of secrétaire d'Etat and côntroleur-général des Finances, see David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, Little Berkhamsted, 2005, Vol. III, pp. 349-351, no. 63-3.

Pierre-Nicolas Pithou l'aîné worked at Sèvres from 1759 to 1790 and was a painter of figures and probably flowers.
