CHINA, MING DYNASTY, DATED TO THE DINGWEI YEAR OF THE JIAJING REIGN, CORRESPONDING TO 1547
The seal carved on one side with the inscription Jiajing dingwei qiuri fanggu, 'In imitation of antiquity in the autumn of dingwei (1547) year of the Jiajing reign', followed by the signature Wen Peng, the square seal face carved with a long poetic inscription

Wen Peng (1498-1573), also known as Sanqiao Jushi (The Dweller of Three Bridges), was the son of Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), the leading calligrapher, scholar and painter of Ming dynasty. He built a name for himself while being a member of the Imperial School (Guozijian) at court as well as a superb seal-carving artist particularly known for his seal-script style carving.
