The approx. knot count is 9.5H x 8V per sq. cm.
This rug has the typical Koum Kapi slightly yellow silk warps and also the salmon pink selvages. The red wefting is unusual, a feature more usually associated with "Toussounian" Hereke rugs. The design incorporates designs in flatwoven silk within the metal thread areas, a feature found principally at Koum Kapi but not unknown in early Herekes. It is probable that this was woven in Koum Kapi rather than Hereke, but by a weaver other than the better known Hagop Kapoudjian, Zareh Penyamin or Avedis Tamishjian.
