North West Persia, circa 1850
The pale yellow field with angular palmette and flowering vine issuing from stylised crowns flanking a pale red angular panelled medallion, the medium blue spandrels with angular vine, in a shaded light blue flowerhead and vine border between pale red floral meander stripes, a hooked S-motif border at either end, short kilim strip at each end, slight loss to kilim strips, very small repairs at one end
6 ft. 1 in. x 4 ft. 1 in. (185 cm. x 125 cm.)

A number of silk Heriz and Tabriz rugs of the 19th century adopted the motif of the royal Persian crown into their designs. In the present rug this is particularly clear in the forms above and below the central medallion.
