Worked in green and peach colored threads with six alphabetical registers flanked by the initials JH/RH above Elizabeth Humphreys 1836, all enclosed within a meandering vine issuing berries and a wave border

Lot Essay

An Elizabeth Humphreys of Philadelphia entered Westtown School in Chester County in May 1841. In 1846, she became an assistant teacher there for about one year.
