Marie Zimmermann (1878-1972) was a member and resident of the National Arts Club in New York City. She is known to have frequented the Metropolitan Museum of Art, visiting in particular the galleries devoted to the Egyptian, Far Eastern and Greek collections, and the influence of historical decorative arts can be seen in the various forms she created. By the 1920s she had become one of the nation's foremost metalworkers and jewelers.
