Provenance
This tobacco bag belonged to Lakota Chief, William Spotted Tail (1857 - 1931). Upon Spotted Tail's death, his children gifted it to W. O. Roberts, Superintendent of Indian Affairs on the Rosebud Reservation. The bag was subsequently passed down to Roberts' daughter, who sold it in 1980.
