A South-German gilt copper-mounted ivory casket with walnut, fruitwood and ebony lined interior
Circa 1600, some of the metalwork possibly replaced
The sarcofagus shaped hinged lid with geometrical pattern to the reverse and a secret drawer to the side with spring mechanism, enclosing a fitted interior with simulated panels, the front with engraved and foliate shaped lock plate, on bun feet
13 cm. high x 17,5 cm. wide x 10 cm. deep

An ebony Augsburg casket of comaprable shape and with a similar interior was exhibited in Augsburg, in 2009 and is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue: Weltenglanz, Der Mathematisch-Physikalische Salon Dresden zu Gast im Maximilianmuseum Augsburg, Deutscher Kunstverlag Berlin/Munchen, 2009, cat no 50, pp. 172-175.
