A VERY RARE BLUE AND WHITE LOBED HOOKAH BASE
YUAN DYNASTY, MID-14TH CENTURY
The compressed globular body segmented into sixteen vertical lobes and raised on a short, flaring foot, every other vertical lobe painted with various blossoming plants, including chrysanthemums, lilies, blackberries, camellias and lingzhi, the cylindrical neck painted with a band of lotus scroll above a border of classic scroll on the shoulder, the interior of the neck covered with a slab of porcelain and pierced with seven holes
