Lot Essay

No other example bearing the current hall mark appears to be published with exception of a nearly identical box and cover in the Palace Museum, Beijing, see Zhao Congyue 'Daoguang yuyong tangmingkuan ciqi (Daoguang hall-marked porcelains) (II)', Forbidden City, Beijing, 2011, vol. 199, p. 76, no. 21. The marks on these two examples appear to have been written by the same hand as some of Shendetang-marked pieces, such as a famille rose 'dragon boats' bowl, see ibid, no. 16.
