It is extremely unusual to find Victorian carriage clocks cased in mother-of-pearl and the gold and enamel mounts on the present example add to its rarity. It is likely to be a unique piece and would almost certainly have been a special commission; few clockmakers would have gone to the undoubted expense of creating such a singular clock without being sure of a sale. The enamel plaque depicting Windsor Castle hints at a possible Royal connection.
