The late-Regency style, which never quite died out in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Books in the mid-19th century, underwent a noticeable, but today little-known, renaissance at the firm in the 1860s and early 1870s. Approximately thirty pieces of pure late-Regency form are shown in their drawings during these years, this chest evidently being part of that output.
