The rectangular padded back and padded arms, covered in closed-nailed floral cotton upholstery, removable padded seat, on reeded tapering legs and brass castors, stamped 'VR' beneath a crown, with brass plaque 'The Chair / used by the late / Duke of Wellington / at the Horse Guards / Novr 20th 1852', stencilled to interior rail FROM / HOLLAND AND SONS / Upholsterers & C. MARYLEBONE ST .... / LONDON

The serving General Officer Commanding London District still uses the Duke of Wellington's office overlooking Horse Guards Parade and sits at his desk. This chair was mentioned in Lady Emily Raglan's will (dated 29 February 1868).
