The finely and naturalistically modelled antelope with head lifted and turned slightly to left, with small erect ears (one missing) behind gracefully arching antlers, eyes hollow for inlays (now missing), with short bushy tail, suspension loop on back

It has been suggested that the antelope's distinctive facial profile and short, bushy tail may identify it as a Saiga antelope, which in ancient times was native to eastern Europe and western Asia.
