Until his death in 2005, the great Syrian artist Abdullatif Al-Smoudi was a long-time resident of Sharjah. Initially trained as a graphic designer, he is inspired by ancient Arab mosaics and architecture. In the present work, he depicts symbols, decorative motifs and a highly charged tapestry of abstraction to which he adds a refreshingly contemporary sense.
