The prototype of 1765 is in the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds, Munich (H. Siefert, Claude-Joseph Vernet 1714-1789, exhibition catalogue, 10 April - 6 July 1997, Neue Pinakothek Munich, p.54, no.8, ill.). Between 1869 and 1928 it hung in the Gemäldegalerie, Speyer.
