John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792), framed c. 1772/4 to be hung at Luton Park, possibly over one of the chimneys in the Saloon where Reynolds' portraits of the 3rd Earl and his wife were subsequently placed.
His son, John Stuart, 1st Marquess of Bute (1744-1814), Luton Park, where recorded in inventories of 1799, p. 41 (Saloon), and 1822, no. 79 (Saloon), and by descent.
