Alice Acheson was an American painter and illustrator. Born to an artistic family, her grandfather was the celebrated artist John Mix Stanley, she married the statesman Dean Acheson in 1917. Dean Acheson served as 51st US Secretary of State under Harry S. Truman and became a lifetime friend of Anthony and Clarissa Eden, often staying with them in Barbados, at Villa Nova, the villa they purchased in 1965.
