Provenance: Edward Gerry (pencilled signature on front wrapper, gift inscription on first page); Stanley Paul Sax (his sale, Sotheby's, 16 January 1998, lot 174).

Although this charming children's alphabet is undated, the American Antiquarian Society lists bookseller, stationer, and publisher Daniel Perrin (1823-1894) at 177 Westminster Street, the address printed on the front wrapper, from 1852 to 1867.
