Basel, Johann Amerbach, 1492. 3 volumes, 2° (291 x 203mm). 858 leaves (of 860, lacks b2 & 5 in vol.I, contemporary ruled paper for manuscript replacement inserted), 52 lines and headline, gothic, roman and a little greek letter, large woodcut on first page of volume I of St Ambrose writing at his desk (worming at beginning and end of vol.I & II and at beginning of vol.III affects text slightly, short tear in f2 in vol.I just touches text, occasional light discolouration). 18th-century Italian vellum (a few repairs). Provenance: the Jesuits at Rome (library stamps on titles and a label on front covers). FIRST EDITION of Saint Ambrose's Works. HC 896*; BMC III, 753; GW 1599; Goff A-551. (3)
