The chased floral decoration and rams head is nearly identical to the seven-piece tea and coffee service aquired by Mary Todd Lincoln in 1861, shortly after the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln (See Charles H. Carpenter Jr., Gorham Silver 1831-1981, 1982, pp. 54-57).
