AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER

The obverse with Dionysos depicted nude, seated on his mantle at the center, a thyrsos in his right hand, a fillet in his long curly hair, a draped woman before him, leaning forward with her left foot upon a rock, a tambourine and a bunch of grapes in her hands, her hair pulled up in a rayed sakkos, a nude youth behind Dionysos, a thyrsos resting against his left arm, a tall flowering plant in his right hand, a fillet in his curly hair; the reverse with three draped youths, a crossed disk and a writing tablet in the field; meander centered by a quartered square below the scenes, a double row of dots on either side, tongues above, ivy vines and berries on the neck, dots on the outer rim, rays on the mouth and palmettes on the handle plates, details in added white
