Lot Essay

This table is based on a model attributed to Sir Robert Lorimer (d.1929), the leading designer of Scottish vernacular furniture. Lorimer is known to have designed two very closely related tables for Edinburgh University Library, which were manufactured by Scott Morton. A third related table with the reputed provenance to the Earls of Moray, was offered Christie's South Kensington, 16 May 2006, lot 202.
