Edo period (19th century), signed Ishido Korekazu saku, dated Ka'ei ninen hachigatsu (no) hi (1848.8) and inscribed Maruke Risaku bo ni yori tsukuru and with hollyhock crest
Sugata [configuration]: hon-zukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, torii-zori
Kitae [forging pattern]: very closely packed ko-itame with hints of mokume
Hamon [tempering pattern]: choji with ashi in nioi and nie
Boshi [tip]: midare komi
Nakago [tang]: ubu with sujikai file marks, one hole
Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 27 1/8in. (68.9cm.) long
Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 1 1/8in. (2.9cm.)
Sakihaba [width before tip]: 7/8in. (2.3cm.)

In shirasaya [plain wood storage scabbard]

19th-century koshirae comprising a red-lacquer ishime saya with silver nashiji embellishments, decorated with butterflies in yamimaki-e, the hardware all gilt-silver and finished in "cat-scratch" patterns on the surface, the tsuka wrapped in red silk and fitted with a shakudo and gold menuki carved as a dragon in clouds coiling around a temple bell and gilt-silver fuchi-gashira decorated to match the saya hardware, iron sukashi Saotome-school tsuba carved with a woodcutter and Mount Fuji with gold and copper highlights, hitsu-ana plugged with shakudo, gilt-silver rope rim, signed Saotome Moriie, 38in. (96.5cm.) long
With a Tokubetsu kicho token (Especially precious sword) certificate issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword) no. 2912, dated 1952.1.27
