The inscription reads 'BENEDICTUS DEUS IM [SIC] DONA SUIS AME'.

Cups of shallow font form appear in English silver from the mid-15th century to circa 1525. The earliest hallmarked example, The Campion Cup of 1500, is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The present cup is after a font-cup of 1521 from the Dunn Gardiner collection, sold at Christie's, 29 April 1902, lot 131, illustrated in C. Jackson, History of English Plate, London, 1911, p. 690, fig. 900.
