AN EGYPTIAN BRONZE HARPOKRATES
LATE PERIOD TO PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, 664-30 B.C.
Solid cast, depicted seated with his feet resting on an integral plinth inscribed in hieroglyphs naming the child, "Hor-pa-khered" (Harpokrates), the god nude, his left arm lowered and bent at the elbow, the palm down, his right arm bent acutely, the forefinger raised to his lips, the eyes inlaid in silver, the pupils in bronze, wearing the Red Crown fronted by a uraeus and slotted to accommodate a now-missing attribute, a drilled projection to his right for the attachment of the now-missing side lock of youth, adorned with a double lobe-shaped amulet suspended from a cord, an exceptionally-designed network of streamers and cord ties incised on his upper back
