Hwt wrt (Avaris) was the administrative centre of the north during the Middle Kingdom and Second Intermediate Period, when it was under the rule of the Hyksos. The palette appears to date to a period before the sack of Avaris by Kamose, the 'founding father' of the Theban 18th Dynasty.
