William Randolph Hearst, the multi-millionaire businessman and newspaper magnate, bought St. Donat's Castle in South Wales in 1925. The interiors were transformed by Sir Charles Allom the architect-antiquarian-decorator who had recently re-decorated Buckingham Palace for George V. He spent about £300,000 on refurbishments and the installation of period paneling and furniture.
