An embroidered kesi of Tsongkhapa
Tibeto-Chinese, 18th century
Tsongkhapa seated on a lotus base at center with his hands held in dharmachakramudra, dressed in heavy patchwork robes and wearing the pointed cap, with the book and sword resting on lotus blossoms at his shoulders, backed by a nimbus and aureole and flanked by his students, Gyaltsap Dharma Rinchen and Kedrup Geleg Pal Zangpo, surrounded by additional deities, including clockwise from lower left, Yama Dharmaraja, Chaturbhuja Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Maitreya, Vajrabhairava, wrathful Vajrapani, and finally, the donor figure, with extensive inscriptions below
