Lot Essay

This ormolu clock celebrates Marcus Furius Camillus (d. 365 B.C.), general and statesman and one of the great heroes of the Roman Republic, who defeated the invading Celts and was the victor over the Etruscans in Veji in 396 B.C.. He became known as the second founder of Rome or the II Romulus and is shown in his Roman warrior uniform with his hand raised above his laurel-wreathed sword and axe, which rest on an altar.
