An English lignum vitae and boxwood backstaff
mid-18th century
the large arc divided 0°-25° and on the higher lattice scale 65°-90° with stamped decorations, the smaller arc numbered on top and outside edge 0°-60°, with sights and vane carrying 'WH', or possibly 'HM', stamped within a diamond, serial number 13 to underside (some repairs).
