The case with later stepped top to the hood (formerly with pilasters, lacking top), later frets to the sides, the rectangular trunk door with moulded frame and lenticle glass, the plinth raised on everted skirting and later bun feet, the front of the case inlaid with 19th century bird and flower marquetry, the 12in. square brass dial with silvered cherub and coronet spandrels to a silvered chapter ring signed Robert Page Harwich, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring (lacking hand), ringed winding holes and conforming frame to the date aperture also engraved around with birds and a fruit basket, with later blued steel hands, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement, with later seatboard; case basically 18th century and with 19th century Dutch veneers, associated to movement and dial, first quarter 18th century -- 88in. (223cm.) high
