Pierced and carved in relief with a central tiki figure with hands held to the abdomen, flanked by two smaller stylised figures in profile, two further tiki figures to each side, each with one hand on the abdomen, the other in the mouth, a stylised figure in profile to each end, extensive carved scrolling and notched ornament, the eyes inlaid with haliotis shell, dark glossy patina, inscribed on the reverse: New Zealand Prow of canoe Bt. of Fenton Nov 1892
