AN INDIAN IVORY-INLAID ROSEWOOD AND PADOUK CHEST-ON-STAND
Gujarat, late 17th century, the stand French late 19th century
Inlaid on all four sides with panels of flowers within borders of interlaced foliage between chequerbanding, the hinged flap enclosing a conforming inner panel and a fitted interior of nine variously-sized drawers, the uppermost drawer simulated as two drawers, on a stand with moulded frieze enclosing a drawer, on shaped legs joined by a concave-sided undertier and gently splayed feet, the underside of the undertier inscribed 'avant' (front)
Overall: 39¼ in. (99.5 cm.) high; 20¼ in. (51.5 cm.) wide; 16¼ in. (41.5 cm.) deep
The box: 11½ in. (29 cm.) high; 17¼ in. (44 cm.) wide; 13¼ in. (33.5 cm.) deep
