Lot Essay

This ebonised sofa with its slightly outscrolled feet, bold outline and balance of form with comfort, recalls the work of furniture designer Guglielmo Ulrich. A leading figure in the Milanese design world of the 1930s and beyond, Ulrich founded the Arredamento Casa House Furnishing Company with contemporaries Scaglia and Wild as the chief in-house designer.
The present sofa is comparable in design to a sofa by Guglielmo Ulrich sold Sotheby's London, 19 May 2010, lot 48 (£ 13,750) and another, Property selected by Gordon Watson, Sotheby's London, 26 September 2007, lot 180 (£19,700).
