During the late 16th century the Ferrucci family distinguished themselves as masters in the field of hardstone carving, in particular in porphyry which they carved on numerous occasions for their patrons, the Medici family. Romolo di Francesco Ferrucci del Tadda is best remembered for his animal sculptures in the Boboli Gardens, Florence.
