Paolina Bonaparte was the most popular and eligible of Napoleon's siblings. Her first husband, a high officer of the revolution died just a few months after their marriage. Paolina then married Prince Camillo Borghese, one of the richest and proudly aristocratic men in the world. He commissioned the sculpture of his new wife, which was executed between 1804 and 1808.
