AN UNUSUAL FINELY PAINTED ANHUA-DECORATED PEAR-SHAPED VASE, YUHUCHUNPING
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
Unusually painted with a scene of a kingfisher perched on the stem of a lotus leaf rising from a tangle of stems of further lotus leaves, flowers and pods interspersed with grasses and sagittaria, the bird painted in a famille verte palette, while all but one lotus leaf are painted in shades of iron red and gold, further painted with insects and on the reverse with a small brown bird shown in flight above a lotus plant, all painted atop incised anhua decoration of chrysanthemum scroll below a ruyi border and a band of chrysanthemum scroll, the neck painted in gold and sepia with a flowering branch, bamboo, and rocks below the flared mouth, with an apocryphal Chenghua mark on the base
